Game-changer in the world of mixology

I am constantly on the lookout for high-quality tools that makes cocktail making easier and more efficient. The OXO Cocktail Strainer is exactly that – a game-changer in the world of mixology.First and foremost, the strainer is made of durable stainless steel and has a sleek, modern design. It fits snugly onto most cocktail shakers and has a comfortable handle that makes it easy to use. The fine mesh screen effectively strains out ice and other unwanted bits, resulting in perfectly smooth cocktails every time. One of the things I love most about the OXO Cocktail Strainer is its versatility. It works equally well with shaken or stirred cocktails and can be used with a variety of different shakers and mixing glasses. It’s also dishwasher safe, which makes clean-up a breeze.Overall, I am extremely impressed with the OXO Cocktail Strainer and would highly recommend it to any bartender looking for a reliable, high-quality strainer.

    Works very well

No issues and worked as it said via the description of the product

  3. Josh Shoopman

    Fits smaller size shaker

These work great on the smaller size shakers. If you have a large weighted one it won’t fit tight. It’s comfortable. Works as expected. And has the typical pain in the but cleaning aspect that all these do because citrus pulp catches in the wires.

  4. carl wood

    Works well

Simple and effective to use and clean

  5. James in Texas

    Wonderful design. Quality build.

No need for long handle. Functions perfectly.

  7. Amazon Customer

Cool shape/size but no way to hang it!!

Cmon… there’s no way to hang this up (like any other Hawthorne out there). The stainless body is obviously stamped, it would have cost literally nothing more to include a small hanging hole in the handle. Because the handle is so short, you also cannot leave it in a cup or shaker tin for storage/to dry. Kinda a big oversight in my book, this product spends the overwhelming majority of it’s life stored at an arms length waiting to be used for 10 seconds of straining (which it does just fine at), I can’t believe nobody considered HOW it would be stored… I assume whoever designed this doesn’t use one at home, and/or has never worked behind a bar before!

    Good Strainer

Generally, OXO products are at the top of my list. I like the strainer, but it does let through small particles.I use it to strain mint for Moscow Mules, and it generally gets most of everything.Other than that, the stainless is good, the size is good, and it cleans up easy.

Easy to store; not fine enough for every job

One of the great things about this strainer is its size: without a long handle it’s easier to store away than most. Seems to be put together pretty well, too, so it ought to last. On the other hand, the spring is rather loosely coiled, which means that it can’t filter out the finer particles present in, say, a drink mixed with citrus juice. It’s totally fine when ice cubes are all that need to be separated from the beverage. For the economical price it’s a handy, useful tool.

    Just works perfectly

    Drink Strainer Strains Drinks! Ergonomically!

This drink strainer does what its name says: it strains drinks. 🤣 It fits a variety of glasses. The best feature is its ergonomic design. That little rubberized pad is perfectly placed to hold the strainer with your finger as you pour one-handed. Count on OXO for great industrial design.

  14. Thrash_it_girl

Sturdiest cocktail strainer I have ever used

This strainer is amazing. As a former bartender I had just gotten used to the idea that all strainers are flimsy. This has definitely changed my mind.

  15. Tony G

Exactly what I was looking for!

Good fit for my existing stainless shaker. Much better for straining than the perforated lid that came with the shaker

  16. Wisehands

Good quality and well designed at a reasonable price

I bought this as part of a self-assembled bar set for a gift, and as a former professional bartender thought this Hawthorne-type strainer is well made, handles well, and is easier to clean than most others.

  17. Amazon Customer

Pro level! Get one for your bar.

Excellent quality and comfortable to use.

  18. Picky Purchaser

    Excellent product.

Simple and ergonomic. Another great product from OXO.

  19. Wilderness Techno Geek

Once I used it, I got rid of my old one. Here’s why…

I initially didn’t want to buy this strainer. I’ve already got one, why do I need another? Well, it was a low cost add-on, so I threw it in, and I’m really glad I did.To begin with, I like OXO, for the most part. Had a minor issue with their dual-sided jigger, but they tried to make me happy, and I appreciate that. However, in this case, they built a perfect product. They’ve thought of everything! The size is a perfect fit for my mixing glass. You press the strainer into the glass and the spring sort of pops into place. There’s no annoying handle because you don’t need one. You can actually invert the mixing glas with strainer, and the strainer will hold because of the tension of the spring inside the glass. Impressive. Also, the finger rest on top is where your finger would naturally rest, so you actually do hold the thing in place while you pour because there’s no other. Comfortable place to put your finger. Brilliant! The moment I used this strainer, I packed my old one away. This is by far the best strainer I’ve used. Good job (again) OXO.

    Well constructed as always

Excellent bar tool basic. It feels like it will last forever. I’ve heard people say the coil should be tighter than this one is, but it filters out ice shards as well as anyone would expect.

  21. Tal m.

    Very nice atrainer

Perfect for both strainer and mofto mixing glass

  22. John R.

OXO is all you need to know.

As soon as I saw OXO I knew this was the one I wanted. I noticed immediately that it had a much shorter handle than others I had seen. After using it I agree – why does it need to be that length. My finger naturally found the rest spot on the strainer. It fit both of the legacy shakers I owned (my father’s – and I’m 70). If America’s Test Kitchen reviews cocktail strainers I’m sure they will choose this one. OXO always seems to think it through.

    Best strainer ever

Much easier to hold then classic strainers. Fits and gates perfectly.

    Love!

This strainer is small and perfect for my hand. It’s not flimsy, it cleans easy and really nice. I love my strainer!

If you can only have one strainer for home

This is a great strainer, which isn’t too surprising since I’ve never had a poor product from oxo.I’ve gotten into cocktail-making during the pandemic and have had fun with it, using make-do kitchen items. After my sister bought me a stirring glass and a Boston shaker for my birthday, I figured I could use an appropriate strainer. This one was perfect for me. It fits both the shaker tin and the glass, so no need for a second julep strainer. It’s easy to hold in place, holds back the ice, and catches much of the other stuff, like stray bits of lemon pulp. (To really get out every last tiny ice chip or bit of lemon, you still need a fine mesh strainer, as is to be expected.) I like the comfortable black oxo grippy thing, which is in the perfect spot. I like that it had a short handle that doesn’t get in the way. The strainer is lightweight but doesn’t feel at all cheap or too thin.Great quality, good price, this hawthorn strainer is a useful addition for your home bar tools.

This strainer has gotten immediate, heavy use – it’s been GREAT!

Ah 2020. What else was I going to do but shop online and try out every drink that caught my fancy in the Cocktail Codex? To do so, I needed a strainer that could fit into my shaker and mixing glass and be easy to use in both. Oxo’s checks those boxes, and looks good doing it.The tinier flange on the back drew me in, and the raised finger holster seemed too good to pass up. It has met my expectations as I applied it to different drinks with vigor. Frothy citrus-based drinks from the shaker don’t lose any energy passing through, and stiffer built cocktails can be done with all the ice I have thanks to the strainer. I love it.Trying to take a picture for the review while pouring to get an action shot wasn’t even that bad thanks to the one-handed nature of its design. Unfortunately I didn’t think to do so until I was past my first drink; thankfully not a drop was spilled in the course of taking said picture. Look, this is a strainer. It’s not as exciting as the things you get to make with it, but I feel like making those things has a little more panache now. Get it, you won’t be disappointed.

Works great. If you need a strainer- this one is great

  31. David R.

Professional bartender. This is the best strainer or fight me.

That’s it. The best strainer. Need a strainer? Buy this one. Bought a different one already? See if you can return it, you wanted this one.I’ve abused this thing for a solid year and it’s just perfect in every way, still. I’d take a year old one of these over any other strainer on the market. If you’re a bartender, or trying to pretend you’re one, OXO should be checked out. This is the best strainer. Their jigger is the best available by an ever larger margin. Their shaker super sucks for work, but is okay for mixing drinks for friends at home.

Is perfect, and easy to clean.

  33. Kevin N. Hammond

    Simply elegant

I’ve not been attracted a Hawthorne-type strainer in the past, mostly because the other styles have always appeared so clumsy and bulky. OXO has struck the right balance with this creation. The finger press is perfectly placed to make the process of using it worry-free and completely functional at the same time. Cleaning couldn’t be simpler, and it stores away in the ‘drink drawer’ very nicely with its smaller size. This is a winner!

Great Strainer for the Crystal Cut Mixing Glass

This looks great and has a nice finish that is holding up well so far (after making many many martinis.) I bought this to go with the cut crystal mixing glass (fits perfect for the opening) and is the perfect accompaniment for the perfect martini. Wire coil is holding up very well after making many a martini. Sláinte.

  35. Melissa

All in all great strainer design

This is a great strainer, hands down. The design is different than normal, but it makes you wonder why they all aren’t designed like this. It’s a tad more expensive than some, but OXO makes great, usable products without fussPros:-Strains large and small objects well without getting clogged-Finger “holder” works remarkably well, and after the first use or two, you get used to it and wonder why all other strainers have that awkward handle-Fits well into basic shakers and glassesCons:-I’ve gotten my finger covered in the cocktail a few times due to the placement, but not a big deal-I have a little larger than average female hands and could see a set of small hands having trouble using this one handed with a large shaker. This isn’t a downside, though one may have to use two hands (I do occasionally out of habit and it’s easy, just something to consider, though normal strainers would pose the same problem)

or maybe cause this product is just that good. it’s definitely the latter

maybe i’m biased cause i’m an OXO fan, or maybe cause this product is just that good. it’s definitely the latter. i’ve used a few cocktail strainers and this one is very good. i like the flexibility of the coil. you can’t go wrong with it. the short handle is brilliant and the rubber spot where you place your fingers while you pour, prevent cold fingertips. if i ever needed another strainer, i’ll be purchasing this very same one. no questioned asked. the price here is very good. i looked at other online stores and Amazon had the lowest price at the time i purchased this. i can go on but i don’t want to look like an alchy LOL. the stainless steel makes it very easy to clean. i can hand wash it but i usually run it in the dishwasher and it looks as new as the day i opened it. it’s a nice. if you’re looking for a cocktail strainer, this is the one.

  37. John S. Reid

Perfect ergonomics for a cocktail strainer

Hard to believe that there can be significant ergonomic differences between one cocktail strainer and another, but it’s true. The OXO cocktail strainer provides a nice plastic rest for the forefinger to hold the strainer in place in a mixing glass, while eliminating the longer (and more intrusive) handle of most prior designs. The OXO strainer fits nicely within most standard sized mixing glasses, and has a nice finish to the metal components. It also gets the job done of straining out ice while allowing liquid to pass.

  38. R. Anthony Massey Jr.

    Good but not great

The product works as expected. The piece used for pressing down isn’t the best. The coils have large spacing. I prefer tighter coils. It works in a pinch but other strainers, such as those from Barfly, are better.

    Worth the $

It’s worth the $. Goes well with my new mixing glass.

    Needed

For when your cocktail needs some straining to do…

  41. W. Ruffner

Short Handle means way fewer accidents

The relatively stubby “handle” on this makes it a lot simpler to get my fingers around when done mixing and ready to pour. I’ve used longer-handled strainers and they work fine, but I need to use more care with them to avoid knocking things over when I’m getting my hand on it. This OXO version fixes that simple flaw.

  42. David F. Phillips

Seals well and goes in the dishwasher

Thanks to my latest cocktail book I’m doing a lot more stirring than shaking and this is a very nice strainer for my mixing glass. It makes a good seal and doesn’t make a mess. At this point, I’ve thrown it in the dishwaher nearly 100 times and it looks good as new.

  43. J. Rainville

Best strainer… period. Buy it now

This is by far the best strainer I owned! Easy to use and clean and fits perfectly in my mixing glass or shaker. Got a second one for my boat because we all need a strainer in our boat, even if it’s a small boat!

  44. Austin

    Love this strainer

This strainer is smaller than my last, but works perfectly. Much more convenient to hold onto the strainer/shaker with this vs my previous strainer.

  45. J. Fuller

    Perfect!

Great strainer for my mixing glass set. Martinis will taste better now…haha!

  46. C. Smith

It’s great. Sturdy and easy to clean with a quick …

I’ve had this strainer — and used it constantly — for over two years. It’s great. Sturdy and easy to clean with a quick rinse under the tap or in the dishwasher, it reliably strains ice and particles out as you pour your cocktail. Other reviews here have lamented that the ‘fit’ is loose, as if the spring is supposed to form some sort of bond to the mixing glass, but the function of the spring is to strain. It’s the pressure of your finger on the rubber grip that keeps the strainer in place as you pour. The finger grip on the OXO strainer is well positioned and comfortable, and the straining spring is heavy gauge and of a good diameter wind. I’ve had no regret with this purchase at all.

  47. Björn Arvidsson

    Perfect

This does the job, has a little rubber thumb-holder, is easy to clean and has that OXO-feeling about it; I love it. I used to shake everything, but I now follow etiquette and stir my Manhattans, every iteration, and therefore I need this to pour; it does what it should. The only drawback was me: I didn’t really take in its circumference, so it was a bit big to fit over my one-cocktail shaker; I use my two-glass shaker and it fits perfectly. But that was my fault, not the gadget’s. I can’t speak to longevity, but there’s very little which can go wrong. A safe buy!

  48. Mongoose

    Well Designed

Pairs very well with my cocktail mixing beaker, it’s sieve isn’t designed to capture all the ice when you pour into the servicing glass (and that’s totally fine by me). The finger rest is – perfectly – placed, and the strainer is appropriately weighted to prevent slippage. A worthwhile investment to your cocktail bar!

    Great for Beginners

I recently started learning the art of bartending and i want to perfect my skills since i am passionate about beverage making. I can say that this strainer will not disappoint you. Its well made and easy to use. I love the way it performs. I have been using this for the past 2 weeks and its perfect. I would recommend this to a friend

    Gets the job done

I like it. It does a decent job. Some ice can still get through so if I want absolutely no ice I use a strainer in addition to this.

    Love it

I really like this strainer a lot. It works as it should and have no complaints. As a bonus, I have many other OXO products and I appreciate that this strainer matches all that.

  54. golfingMAD

    Performed as Promised and Expected

Did everything we expected. Nice design makes it easy to hold onto top of mixing glass or shaker with one hand. Clean easy as long as you rinse it right away. Nicely made and seems durable. Oxo usually makes great products and this is one of them.

  55. Redsilas

Really nice, fits my generic Boston shaker

Sure, a few reviewers stated it lets a few ice shard through – yes that’s true, but for a novice like me, that really doesn’t matter. I like that it fits my Boston Shaker and does a much better job than using a fork to strain (yes, I’ve done this) and it’s ergo and easy to clean. Also the ice shards are because my ice maker is really bad, not because of the strainer. Really please, nice addition to your ‘at home’ bar.

  56. matt4110

Well built, easy to use, and easy to clean

Pros: The body is made of a hefty gage steel, so it is not easily bent under normal use. The spring/coil is also made of durable steel and has retained it’s shape nicely thus far, although I have only used it a half dozen times or so. The rubber grip on the top is nicely placed and feels comfortable to use for someone with average sized hands like myself. I have also found it is relatively easy to clean, as the spring slides off the body and can be washed separately.Cons: I have seen springs on Hawthorne strainers that have a tighter pitch on the coils, which helps keep the smaller ice chips out of a drink. However, if you are really looking to get the small chips out of a drink a fine strainer is the way to go and not a Hawthorne strainer like this. It is also somewhat pricey for just a strainer, but ultimately if you are looking for something that will last this one is the way to go.Overall, I’m very happy with the purchase and would recommend it. It is worth the price.

OXO strainer: get one: reivew over =)

I’m biased towards OXO brand. Why ? Because they make quality functional kitchen products.I own several products made by them so when looking for bar tools, it was my first place to start looking. This strainer fits over the steel shaker glass perfectly. When I’m done, a quick rinse and it cleans up quick. When making margaritas and fresh lime, it strains the pulp perfectly. Its easy to hold and to work with. Its made of quality steel. I’ve had it for a month and have been using it frequently. No issues.I recommend this OXO strainer.Get one.

  58. Alex Ranous

Let’s Too Much Ice Shards Out

I started with this strainer, and I find the design and ergonomics great. I recently switched to a Koriko strainer from Cocktail Kindom, and find I like it better. While I prefer the ergonomics of the Oxo more, the Koriko benfits from a much tighter spring. The ice my ice maker makes is a hollow top hot shape, and it really shatters when shaking and makes lots of ice shards. The Oxo spring is too loose, and lets lots of these shards escape and I’ve had to double strain using a tea strainer so I don’t over dilute the drink. With the Koriko, the really tight coil of the spring catches almost all the ice shards so I don’t have to double strain. If the Oxo had a tighter spring, it would be perfect.
